Nokia scales ladder, will offer mobile services in Japan
TT Bureau |  |  24 Nov 2008

Nokia’s diversification from a handset manufacturer to services mainly pertaining to value added services (VAS) like Ovi, internet search services, internet ad agency and likewise is now a well known strategy. But the Finnish firm is speculated to take diversification to a new high and serve as an end-to-end telecom service provider.

Nokia is reportedly planning to launch a full fledged mobile virtual network operator based mobile (MVNO) services in Japan.

Japanese newspaper, Yomiuri Shimbun reports that Nokia is in talks with Japan’s NTTCoMo to offer mobile services through the MVNO route. And the launch date is too expected soon, i.e. February next year.

The services, as per reports, will targeted only towards the high strata of the consumers and will be offered under the Vertu brand name. Nokia offers premium luxury handsets under the Vertu brand.

It will be interesting to watch, apart from the luxury phone, the kind of services which Nokia plans to offer as a MVNO and i.e. to high-end consumers.
