Mobile operators in USA are anxiously waiting to offer real-time mobile video services with over 50 percent of them planning to launch or increase access to real-time mobile video services in the next two years.
The findings, part of a new research by Ovum and commissioned by Global IP Solutions (GIPS), says that even small operators are pursuing flexible IP communication applications from 3rd parties. The research adds that about half of the operators are keen to deliver open platforms for 3rd party developers.
Mark Radoff of Ovum commented on the study’s findings, “Real-time video is coming to the forefront for mobile operators, as many respondents stated significant video activity is in the pipeline for the next two years. Both the small and large operators are keen to launch these services and determine ways to productize real-time video, to differentiate their services and potentially increase ARPU.”
Video-conferencing services as those launched by AT&T Wireless seems to be the new services in offing from most of the operators. Issues concerning the operators include optimization, usable applications as well as integration with social networks. |
