Facebook ties up with Vodafone to launch 'Mobile Platform'
Agencies |  |  08 Feb 2008

Social networking portal Facebook has launched its mobile platform enabling enhanced end-user experience on mobile devices and has tied-up with Vodafone for markets in UK and Germany to be followed by similar tie-ups in Greece, Italy, Spain, Ireland and Portugal.

Facebook Director of mobile division, Jed Stremel claims that the portal has 6 million users on its current mobile platform and expects the number to increase with the new version. He added that operators will be able to generate revenues from data services used by subscribers to access Facebook.

The mobile platform also includes other specifications which are designed to stop abuse of Facebook such as spamming. For example when users send MMS with a photo to their profile, the user is sent back a confirmation message with a code or link. The confirmation than links the person’s phone with his Facebook account.
