Mobile Carriers in USA are riding high on the strong demand for mobile data services in the country as they recorded $ 10.6 billion in revenues from the services in Q2 2009 at a 30 % growth on a YoY basis.
The development marks consecutive quarters when the operators have notched up more than $ 10 billion revenues from mobile data services.
"In summary, the recession has been all but a tiny blip in its growth trend and the U.S. mobile market has weathered the downward spiral in economy better than its counterparts in other developed nations," said a report titled, ‘U.S. Wireless Data Market Update.’ "Of course, recession doesn''t treat all players equally, so some have had a negative impact and will need more resources and effective strategies to claw back to their previous market position."
AT&T as well as Verizon witnessed growth rates of more than 8 % for mobile data services. T-Mobile registered growth rate of 6 $ for the services. Sprint too is reporting strong uptake for its mobile data cards as well as for devices like MiFi that use a 3G connection to create a portable Wi-Fi cloud. The operator’s devices supporting electronic book reading is also finding good acceptance.
The report says that increased use of smartphones and data cards is putting more pressure on wireless operators to accelerate their strategies to deploy the next generation of mobile data networks. |
