Star Plus’s show to fetch Rs 18 crore through VAS
TT Bureau |  |  27 Feb 2008

Star Plus is expected to earn over Rs 18 crore from mobile and landline calls and through SMSes for its new quiz show Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hai, to be hosted by actor Sharukh Khan. This amount overtook the amount of Rs 10-12 crore earned through Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) last year.

This time the channel has decided to go non-exclusive for the telecom operators as at the time of KBC, only Airtel, MTNL and BSNL were the players involved.

Star Plus has signed few telecom operators including Spice, Airtel, MTNL, and BSNL and is also in talks with Reliance communications, Idea Cellular, Tata Indicom and Vodafone.

“We do plan to go non-exclusive, but cannot divulge any details at this stage” said Viren Popli, the senior vice-president of Star Mobile Entertainment.

Call rates for the consumers will be around Rs 4 per landline call and Rs 6 for mobiles and SMS. Also Star Plus is also looking to increase the revenue-sharing ratio between the telecom partners by revising it from 22 percent of KBC-3 to 50 percent this time around.
