The Empowered Group of Ministers headed by the finance minister Pranab Mukherjee is likely to take a final decision on minimum spectrum price for auction in its meeting on June 20.
The meeting is vital as the auction process as per Supreme Court’s directives is to be completed before August 31and Mukherjee who is contesting presidential election may resign before the deadline.
Earlier this month EGoM had decided to auction one extra block of CDMA spectrum, even as it decided that the spectrum will remain valid for 20 years. It also decided that existing operators be allowed to bid for one block of 1.25 MHz.
The government proposes to auction at least 10 Mhz of spectrum in blocks of 1.25 Mhz each. It has decided to provide additional spectrum of up to 3.75 Mhz to ensure that entire 10 Mhz spectrum is sold through auction. |
