Govt mulls ITI merger with BSNL says report
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  17 Jul 2008

The government may reportedly merge financially troubled ITI with BSNL, a move which may add more financial stress to BSNL which itself is facing dwindling financial results.

As per The Times of India report, the move may put BSNL under stress which is facing supply side constraints and competitive pressures.

A senior official is quoted to have said that ITI does not has manufacturing capabilities now and its present line of business is in low margin business verticals implying a remote possibility of turn around for the company.

ITI must be merged with BSNL as BSNL shall get highly skilled manpower. It will be beneficial for both the organisations. BSNL must be awarded NAVRATNA status as well. Union of BSNL should not raise this issue in negative direction.

I shall like to comment that ITI has been instrumental in keeping the telecom services at higher side.It could never produce any thing worthy. It tied up with Alcatel who gave rusted technology to this nation. It is because of private and chiinese vendors that capital expanditure on telecom infra has come down heavily. When prices are down then you can see that ITI is not able to survive and looking at BSNL to bail it out.It is up to the governement and BSNL management to decide but one thing is for sure that ITI has not conttibuted a bit for the development of the telecom infra in the country.
