BSNL’s IPTV launch delayed due to lack of agreements with content providers
TT Correspondent |  Kolkata |  04 Aug 2008

BSNL’s IPTV launch in te three cities of Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Kolkata will be delayed due to its failure to reach conclusive agreements with any of the leading broadcasters and content providers.

BSNL-Kolkata CGM S K Chakravarty said that the broadcasters were apprehensive in entering into any agreement with third parties; IOL Broadband in case of BSNL and were more willing to directly involve BSNL in the agreement. This according to him lead to a situation where the company failed to rope in any of the leading broadcasters. “Broadcasters are keen on entering into agreements with BSNL but not with any third-party which, in fact, has hindered the growth of IPTV,” said Chakravarty.

“BSNL is in the process of acquiring equipment required for downloading signals and distribution. It will take another year to relaunch the IPTV with new infrastructure,” added Chakravarty.
