The percentage of organizations with downlink broadband speed of 10Mbps and above increased to 25 percent from its earlier 18 percent between October 2007 and May 2008, with more workplaces opting for faster speed and many anticipating even faster speed in the coming time, revealed BBUS Business Survey.
Commissioned by Point Topic, the survey found that 45 percent of UK premises expect to have higher speed within the next two to three years and 7 percent significantly more.
At present, 8Mbps is the most common downstream speed in 33 percent of British workplaces however this share saw 8 percent reduction since October 2007, as more companies migrated to higher speed broadband in recent months.
The survey noted that organizations having bigger businesses being more likely to need more bandwidth than those with smaller businesses. 61 percent of respondents from medium or larger workplaces and businesses said they expected to need higher speeds, but only 39 percent of those from smaller premises said so.
The rise in the use of applications like video conferencing, VOIP and others can be credited for the increasing need for faster broadband.
“Remote access, remote helpdesks, video conferencing and VOIP are all becoming more embedded in day to day organizational use. These applications are the primary drivers for the increasing speeds organizations require now and in the future,” said Tim Johnson, senior analyst at Point Topic. |
