Comviva deploys mCommerce platform for Bangladesh’s Banglalink

Comviva announced the deployment of a new mCommerce platform for Bangladesh’s second largest mobile operator, Bangalink enabling it to offer mWallet services.

 

As part of the deal, Comviva will deploy its mobiquity solution.

 

Announcing the partnership, Manoranjan Mohapatra, CEO, Comviva, commented, “We are committed to bringing innovative value added services that enrich the lives of people across emerging markets worldwide. The provision of mobile financial services is a key focus area for us and our award winning mobiquity™ solution is now serving previously unbanked customers across the globe. We are particularly excited by our partnership with Banglalink, as we see significant opportunity to improve the livelihoods of financially underserved segments in Bangladesh with easy-to-use and affordable financial payment services.”

 

Speaking on the occasion, Shihab Ahmad, Marketing Director, Banglalink commented, “Banglalink is committed to leveraging technology to meet the evolving needs of our customers. Our tie-up with Comviva to serve the unbanked population of Bangladesh is a prime example of this. With mobiquity™, we are able to provide a cost-effective banking solution to previously un-banked low-income earners. We are committed to our vision of improving people’s lives by delivering mobile-based services, particularly creating access to financial services for the masses.”

 

The service will work under a ''bank-led' model and the banks will offer mobile wallet accounts to the remittance receivers through the Banglalink network. This is for the first time in the whole of South Asia, international remittance service through mobile phone is launched. Already the mobile remittance service is available at almost 1,000 Banglalink outlets throughout Bangladesh. There is plan to increase the reach even further.
