Cisco, BT provide support to NGO initiative for rural education

OneWorld South Asia has launched a pilot project in South Asia with support from British Telecom and Cisco. The project aims at assisting rural teachers in addressing the needs of the children more effectively through information and communications technology tools.

 

The project has been launched in Moteswar block of Burdawan district in West Bengal, and partnered with Vikramshila Education Resources Society, which is based in Kolkata, to look into the operational aspect of the project. The project will cover 276 schools in thirteen gram panchayats at Monteswar including around 3,000 teachers and 18,000 students.

 

BT and Cisco have provided the required technological support to the initiative which involves use of contact centres for interaction between students and teachers.
