Qualcomm to launch 4G tech to push ‘Snapdragon''
TT Correspondent |  |  19 May 2011

Wireless technology player Qualcomm hopes 4G/LTE technologies — expected to be launched in India in the first quarter of 2012 — will give a big thrust to its ‘Snapdragon' family of chipsets.

The company plans to launch “powerful” Snapdragon processors that enable enhanced capabilities such as console-quality gaming, stereoscopic 3D, and augmented reality.

“With 40 million mobile Internet users, 28 million Facebooks users – 30 per cent of them on the mobile device, and 20 photos uploaded every second, the mobile device is more than just a phone.

The case is compelling for Snapdragon which promises greater power efficiency, lower system costs and faster time to market,” says Dr Sandeep Sibal, Country Manager and VP – Business Development, Qualcomm India and South Asia. In 2010, six smartphones powered by Snapdragon were launched in India (including Acer Liquid, Sony Ericsson Experia, HTC Desire and Dell Streak). Already in 2011, 13 devices have been launched by various OEMs.
