TT Correspondent |  |  16 Aug 2011

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider said on Monday that its sales revenue grew 11 percent year-over-year to CNY 98.3 billion and operating profit reached CNY 12.4 billion.

"Huawei''s performance in the first half of 2011 was in line with our expectations, while growth was stable and robust,"said Cathy Meng, Chief Financial Officer, Huawei.

"Although the global economy continues to face uncertainty, we remain confident in achieving our annual sales target of CNY 199 billion with our Device and Enterprise businesses as new growth drivers."

While Huawei has traditionally focused on providing telecom solutions for the operator segment, it is transforming into an integrated ICT solutions vendor to capitalize on the significant growth presented by this market.

In the first half of 2011, Huawei continued to further enhance its leading position in the carrier market. In the wireless area, Huawei launched the first multi-mode SingleRAN solution which supports both WiMAX and LTE, and helped Saudi Arabian operator Mobily deploy the world's first TD-LTE/WiMAX dual-mode commercial network.

During this period, Huawei also deployed over 130 SingleRAN commercial networks around the world, all of which support LTE. More than 40 of those operators who have deployed the SingleRAN technology will have launched or will soon launch LTE networks. Huawei also continued to solidify its position as the top optical and access network equipment provider, winning six of the seven national broadband projects in the world.

Huawei also introduced new cloud computing business models by launching cloud solutions for the visual media ("Media Cloud") and healthcare ("Health Cloud") industries. Huawei's cloud computing and data center solutions have been deployed in over 20 countries in the world, widely used across different industries such as operators, medical, radio & broadcast, the Internet, education and e-government, among others.

Huawei Device realized strong growth during this period, with shipments up by 40% year-over-year to 72 million units.

In the mobile broadband market, Huawei continued to lead the industry, ranking among the top providers globally. The handset business grew by over 100% with smartphones at the center of the growth and the shipment of Android-based smartphones ranking among the top five in the world. In addition, Huawei launched one of the industry's first cloud service platforms and first cloud smartphone, as well as the world's first 7-inch Android 3.2 honeycomb dual-core tablet, the Media Pad.
