IPTV may not succeed in India, says Sony TV CEO Dasgupta
TT Bureau |  |  26 Mar 2008

Mr. Kunal Dasgupta, CEO of Sony Entertainment indicated on the slim probability of IPTV succeeding in India in near future as the medium has limited appeal in the Indian market.

Mr. Dasgupta finds digitization of cable television as a cause of obstacle. He was seen speaking on the perimeters of Ficci-Frames 2008 - global convention on the entertainment business, organized by Ficci.

According to him, the direct-to-home service or conditional access system is unlikely to bring a phenomenal change in distribution since it doesn’t offer any incentives to cable operators. “Cable operators get carriage charges, so there is no motivation for digitization,” he added.
