Bharti Airtel, Rcom face penalty for flouting subscribers verification norms

Reliance communications and Bharti Airtel are in the firing line of Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for failing to comply with the guidelines related to verification for registering new subscribers.

The Telecom Ministry may issue demand notices of Rs 55.67 lakh to RCom and Bharti Airtel and Rcom for failing to comply with the guidelines related to verification for registering new subscribers.

Both the telcos did not adhere to verifications related requirements like photo photo on CAF, address proof and ID proof. There are 198 such cases against Bharti Airtel.  

According to sources DoT is mulling action against Bharti Airtel with for violating terms and conditions of licence with  graded financial penalty of Rs 2.79

In case of Reliance Communications, it will now have to pay Rs. 52.88 Lakh for violating similar terms and conditions. DoT had issued demand notice to the company.
