TT Correspondent |  |  28 Dec 2011

The price war for smartphones, tablet, and playbooks is heating up. As part of promotional activities Research in Motion (RIM) on Tuesday slashed the price of its tablet, PlayBook by 50 percent.

The company said that this is just an a limited offer aimed at popularizing the devices which is valid till 31st December 2011.

It said that it will now sell its 16 GB tablet at Rs 13,490 which is almost half its original price of Rs 27,990 when it was launched in June 2011. Similarly its 32 GB tablet can now be had for Rs 15,990 with 64 GB now priced at Rs 24,490.

Yet given the small market for the tablets, the offer may not entice many. According to a vendor sale of these tablets are yet to pick up in India.
