Broadband penetration key to telecom revolution in India- Sachin Pilot

Telecommunication will play a major catalyst in India’s economy and a lot depends on the vast young work force of the country to realise this potential.

Speaking during a session on ‘Driving Innovations’ in Jaipur on Monday the minister of state for communication and IT Sachin Pilot said that telecommunications is fast transforming the complexion of the country and India is fast becoming an information economy.

He said that with $1trillion investment planned for infrastructure during 12th five-year plan, the sector is likely to get huge impetus. The broadband penetration in the country in a big way is major task ahead for which an investment of $5 billon is required broadband and optical fibre network.     

Pilot said that India is looking forward to a time when cutting edge technologies are made a reality even in small villages and distant places of the country.
