European Commission reviews Nokia’s Acquisition of NAVTEQ
TT Bureau |  |  29 Mar 2008

Nokia announced the commencement of European Commission’s Phase II review of the awaiting acquisition of NAVTEQ Corporation.

The European Commission has been given 90 working days to come to a final decision on the deal. The review period can be stretched to as many as 125 working days if circumstances demand.

“We have engaged in an open and constructive dialogue with the Commission in order to find agreement on the acquisition of NAVTEQ. We have listened to the Commission''s concerns, and look forward to finding a common understanding that will enable the transaction to be closed,” said Rick Simonson, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Nokia.

Simon further goes on to restate Nokia’s commitment to the acquisition, which according to him will play an essential role in the company’s Internet services push.

European Commission’s probe into the transaction remains a part of the Commission’s review process and is not indicative of the ultimate result.
