Spectrum Auctioning: DoT may keep slots of 5MHz for auctioning to allow more WiMax players
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  31 Mar 2008

The DoT is reportedly considering auctioning spectrum in slabs of 5MHz instead of the earlier consideration of 10 MHz in a bid to enable more WiMax players to receive spectrum.

DoT has earmarked 80MHz of spectrum in the 2.5MHz band and is planning to allow each operator to bid for four slots which means that a successful bidder stands to receive upto 20MHz of spectrum.

Earlier Trai had recommended slots of 10MHz and had not specified the maximum amount of bandwidth for which an operator can bid for.
