Telecom industry on Tuesday refuted the claims that telecom towers are hazardous to health. In a GSMA event they also rubbished the perception that three towers pulled down by the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) in the city were responsible for brain cancer that the two members of a family suffering from.
The telco bodies have also come together to say that all these reports of telecom towers causing cancer have no scientific proof. These industry bodies are- the COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India), and Auspi (Association of United Telecom Service Providers of India), the two industries bodies representing GSM and CDMA players.
"Misinformation generated regarding electro-magnetic fields (EMF) radiation from mobile towers creates undue panic and apprehension among the people. It is critical that only proven scientific research-based findings from credible bodies of international repute be referred to and understood in this context," said Rajan S Mathews, director general COAI.
He said that even WHO (World Health Organisation) and ICNIRP (International Commission for Non-ionizing Radiation Protection) have not agreed with these perceptions saying no scientific studies support the health risks emerging towers.
