In the midst of sharp criticism from the telecom lobbies and telcos over the TRAI’s recommendations for 2G spectrum auction, the Telecom Commission is seeking clarity on 2G spectrum auction issues including the auction base price from the sector regulator.
"We wanted to understand the basis on which this reserve price has been arrived at what is the likely impact on tariff," Telecoms Secretary R. Chandrashekhar said after a meeting of the commission.
"The Telecom Commission has not arrived at any judgment as of now whether the reserve price is too high or too low," he said.
Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recently proposed a minimum or base price of Rs 3,622.18 crore, a ten time hike, for every mega Hertz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band, where radio airwaves have been vacated following the Supreme Court’s verdict on February 2 cancelling all the 122 spectrum licences allotted in 2008 during the tenure of the former telecom minister A Raja. |
