EMC Corporation on Thursday said that Tulip Telecom will provide end to end managed on demand storage services and Backup as a Service (BaaS) using EMC unified storage and backup and recovery technologies from the Tulip Data City in Bangalore, the world’s third largest Data Center and Asia’s biggest.
Tulip’s cloud based storage and backup service offerings are powered by EMC’s award winning EMC VNX unified storage, EMC Avamar and EMC Data Domain technologies for storage and backup and recovery, enabling Tulip to offer enterprises managed services to address the growing complexities related to storage and backup of data.
On demand storage and Backup as a Service are cloud computing based business models wherein information storage, backup, archival and the duplication technologies are offered to customers “as per need” and in a “pay as you use” manner.
According to the 2010 IDC Digital Universe Study, sponsored by EMC, digital information in India will grow from 40,000 petabytes to 2.3 million petabytes, twice as fast as the worldwide rate over the next decade (2010 to 2020).
As a result, enterprises of all sizes small, medium and large will face an increasing challenge to store, protect and manage the rapidly growing digital information and comply with backup requirements.
Using EMC technologies, Tulip will address the growing market need for dependable cloud computing solutions for data storage and backup through hosted data centers. Never before have enterprises in India had access to managed services for online storage and backup at the scale that is offered at the Tulip Data City a data center spread across 0.9 million square feet, with the capacity to house up to 12,000 racks.
"We selected EMC technologies because we aim to deliver the industry leading solutions to our TDC customers. This choice is in line with Tulip's rapid evolution to a leading enterprise solutions provider and is expected to enhance our services portfolio for Cloud offerings”, said Deepinder Bedi, Executive Director, Tulip Telecom.
"Managed services and cloud services are expected to gain prominence in coming years and Cloud, primarily Infrastructure as a Service, expected to grow at 30-40% is poised to becoming an integral part of Data Center Business. Considering this, Tulip backup and storage offerings, powered by EMC’s VNX unified storage and Avamar and Data Domain backup and recovery solutions, is well positioned to leverage this growth.”
“The scale of Tulip’s cloud based, on demand storage and backup offerings is the only one of its kind in India, and will provide a differentiated approach to storage, while delivering the choice, control, flexibility, and cost efficiencies of cloud that are required by today's IT organization”, said Rajesh Janey, President, EMC India & SAARC.
