Mufti slams new telecom policy as discriminatory, divisive
TT Correspondent |  |  06 Jun 2012

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has slammed the National Telecom Policy terming it as discriminatory, thoughtless and divisive.

He said that the “one nation, one number” provision in the new telecom policy which excludes Jammu and Kashmir will only lead to the alienation and trust deficit. He urged the government to intervene and scrap this provision.

He also said that this provision has the potency to fuel the feeling of otherness among the people of the state.

“Such treatment of the J&K will only fuel alienation, contributes to trust deficit and cultivates the feeling of otherness among the people,” he said while addressing a meeting in Kupwara.

“By treating the people of the state as suspects in implementation of policies like the telecom policy the government was actually creating a mistrust about them which reflects often in unwarranted police action against them in various states,” Mufti said.
