DoT likely to seek extension for 2G auction: Report

The Government is likely to request the Supreme Court to extend August 31 deadline for completing the auction of 2G spectrum freed from the cancellation of 122 telecom licences in February, reports PTI. 

 

"As per the present plan, DoT (Department of Telecom) may file a plea before Supreme Court by August 10," a senior official privy to the information told PTI.

 

The Supreme Court on April 24 had rejected government’s plea for completing spectrum auction within 400 days but extended the deadline from June 2 to August 31.

 

Sistema Shyam Teleservices, Uninor and Videocon whose licences were cancelled by the court but are willing to continue their businesses by acquiring spectrum through auction.So, the auction is important for them.
