TT Correspondent |  |  07 Aug 2012

The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) on telecom headed by P Chidambaram will now meet on Tuesday to discuss new time line for auction of spectrum. The meeting on Monday was postponed as the telecom minister Kapil Sibal’s flight from Chandigarh got delayed, according to reports.

It is believed that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has given nod to Gurgaon based Times Internet as auctioneer to conduct auction of around 13.75 Mhz of spectrum in 1800 Mhz band and 3.75 Mhz in 800 Mhz band.

Cabinet on Friday fixed Rs 14,000 crore for 5 Mhz spectrum in 1800 Mhz band and Rs 18,200 crore for 5 Mhz spectrum in 800 Mhz band as minimum price.

DoT is planning to issue Information Memorandum (IM) on August 27, leaving just four days for the auction process to be completed before August 31 deadline.
