Huawie to help China Mobile deploy WLAN mobile backhaul network in 17 cities
TT Correspondent |  |  11 Aug 2012

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, will help China Mobile Shangdong Branch (Shangdong Mobile for short) to deploy WLAN (Wireless Local Area Networks) mobile backhaul networks in 17 cities of Shandong province with its FTTW (Wi-Fi backhaul) solution.

Huawei said that this solution uses GPON access technology to backhaul WLAN data streams, providing 54 Mbit/s Internet access for 50,000 WLAN hotspots in schools, offices, transport hubs, hotels, leisure places, downtown areas, and residential areas.

To meet the increasing demand for high bandwidth mobile broadband access, and to improve the company's competitiveness, Shandong Mobile will deploy high-bandwidth WLAN networks to provide convenient hotspots for users to access Internet services. The combination of WLAN and existing mobile communication networks provides high-speed mobile broadband access. Mobile broadband allows users to work away from their offices, browse websites, send and receive E-mails, watch online movies, and download large files on the go.

Huawei's FTTW (Wi-Fi backhaul) solution applies to Shandong Mobile's E2E mobile backhaul network, covering the OLT deployed in the central office, the optical distribution network (ODN), and the optical access equipment MDUs.

Compared with traditional mobile backhaul networks, Huawei's FTTW solution, which is an integral part of Huawei's SingleFAN solution, saves fibers, ensures a high investment utilization rate, and allows for easy network maintenance and efficient fault location.

In comparison with traditional FTTH/FTTB fixed access solutions, Huawei's FTTW solution supports more specifications and features to meet the requirements of service deployment in mobile networks. For example, Huawei's FTTW solution supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), which reduces routing workload for WLAN AP power supply, simplifies installation of WLAN hotspots, and shortens service deployment time. This solution better satisfies the requirements of mobile network construction.

According to the studies by Infonectics, OVUM, and BBT on market share for the access field in 2012 Q1, Huawei remained the first in fixed broadband, FTTx, PON, DSL for two consecutive years as well as in 2012 Q1 and continued to lead the development in the global access market.
