Detailed Review

Design:

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is the best among Galaxy series. It’s fast, slim and solid phone. The big 4.3 inch Super Amoled plus display with just 125.3 mm, 66.1 mm and 8.49 mm dimensions in height, width and depth is simply superb. The weight is also lighter, just 116 gm. You may not like its plastic body type.

There is a physical home key below the screen, along with back and menu touch keys. And on the bottom of the phone has a USB/charging connector with a mouthpiece alongside it. On the top of the device is a 3.5 mm earjack whereas, the left side gives volume controls and lanyard eyelet. The right side is left alone with just lock/power key there is no dedicated camera key on the phone. Above the screen is a front facing camera with light sensors and earpiece. For safety to this huge screen, Galaxy S2 has a corning Gorilla Glass. The overall design of the Galaxy S2 is great and it’s handy too.

Interface/Operating System:

Samsung Galaxy S2 in-built runs on Google Android 2.3 gingerbread, which definitely does not suit this phone. It is upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It has a powerful Dual Core 1.2 GHz cortex A-9 processor supported by 1 GB RAM. When tested, the browsing on this interface with power packed processor and RAM was a brilliant experience and fun. The speed was good when we used it on 3G. Multitasking to swapping applications was smoother.

Battery:

Samsung has used standard Li-Ion 1650 mAh battery. When tested, we got excellent results on 2G and above average on 3G. The stand by time was up to 380 hours on 2G and up to 550 hours when on 3G whereas, the talk time was up to 17 hours on 2G and up to 8 hours on 3G. We are satisfied with the results.

Camera:

Galaxy S2 comes with tremendous 8 megapixels main camera with auto focus and LED flash and it has a 2 megapixels front facing camera too. The camera quality of Samsung Galaxy S 2 is great. When tested, the outdoor images captured were rich and clearer in colours and the camera worked quickly. It hardly took a second to be ready for next image. The Galaxy S2 camera supports JPEG, PNG, GIF, WBMP, BMP and AGIF image type. The indoor shoots were also very good. The Galaxy S2 camera has a 3264 x 2448 image resolution. The images from front camera were average.

Memory:

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is rich in aspect of memory space too. It gives 16/32 GB of memory with a micro SD card space of up to 32 GB more with support of 1 GB RAM. Isn’t this great? Surely, this can be the key for many people who love to keep their favorite playlist of audio/video with them.

Audio/Video:

Despite its slim in look, the Samsung Galaxy S2 has not compromised with its voice/sound quality. The sound quality, when tested, was good with both the headphones and with the speaker mode. The Touch Wiz music player is multi functional, the sound enhancing DNSe technology and 5.1 channel virtualization gives you better music output.

Samsung Galaxy S2 supports MP3, OGG, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, WMA, WAV, MID, AC3, IMY, FLAC and XMF audio formats. Like other galaxy phone, Galaxy S2 also has a Stereo FM radio with RDS. The video quality of this phone is wonderful. It features 1080 pixels full HD recording and playback at 30 frames per second. The video call quality from 2 megapixels front facing camera is good but the sound quality drops down, if you hold it at a hand’s distance. It supports MPEG4, H.264, H.263, WMV, DivX andVC-1 video formats. When tested, the video captured from the camera was really superior quality and gave perfect 1080 HD resolution.

Features:

Samsung Galaxy S2 comes pre loaded with powerful features. It features 4 hubs, which are Reader Hub, Social Hub, Game Hub and Music Hub. Readers Hub allows you to browse through more than two million books and on top of that, it gives you access to more than 2,500 magazines in 20 languages and 2,000 of newspapers in 47 languages at your fingertips. The Social Hub includes all major social sites like, Facebook, twitter, You Tube, Linked In and many more. The Game Hub lets you download high quality games and provides over 20 social network games and premium games. And the Music Hub is available in only 32 countries in Europe and N.America which allows you to access the world of 13 million tracks of songs. Galaxy S2 is featured with Samsung Kies 2.0 and Kies air.

The newly introduced Kies 2.0 enables the Samsung Galaxy S2 to sync with a computer using a Wi-Fi network for PIM backup, subscribing to contents, and multimedia contents sharing. And with the Samsung Kies air you can connect with any browser’s address bar without a Kies program through the web browser to manage all sorts of information and multimedia contents on a larger screen. Wi-Fi direct, NFC, Voice Calling and All Share are also featured in this power packed phone.

Conclusion:

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is certainly a good buy in this price range. It offers a long list of in-built high class features/applications that exist in all latest Android phones. The big 4.3 inch Super AMOLED plus screen is amazing and it offers great display. The powerful RAM and processor gives hassle free browsing experience. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S2 is a brilliant phone in almost all aspects. We give this phone four star rating.
