Tussle brewing up between Airtel and RAW over phone taping
TT Correspondent |  |  22 Oct 2012

A tussle of sorts is brewing up between the Bharti Airtel and the country's premier external intelligence agency the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) over interception of some telephone numbers.

RAW had requested Airtel for lawful phone tapping of these numbers which was turned down by the telcco saying that it would do so once they get the space. Airtel is getting lot such requests from lot of other agencies as well.

The situation has prompted to say that this is an acceptable as the matter is related to the national security.

In a letter to the Department of Telecommunications, Arun K Sinha, a joint secretary-rank officer in RAW, has expressed the agency’s displeasure at not heeding to the RAW’s request.
