Turk Telekom, Turkey’sleading communications and convergence technologies company, has begun to deploy Alcatel-Lucent’s VDSL2 technology to deliver the latest broadband services such as premium, high-definition television broadcasts and video-on-demand (VOD) sessions over its existing copper infrastructure.
The deployment is part of Turk Telekom’s “FiberkenTT” strategic network transformation initiative to provide Turkish households with high-speed broadband by bringing fiber closer to their homes and leveraging the existing copper wire infrastructure in the ‘last-mile’ of connection. This approach, called fiber-to-the-building, leverages Alcatel-Lucent’s 7353 ISAM fiber-to-the-building (FTTB) solution, and enables Türk Telekom to deliver high-speed broadband in the shortest possible timeframe because it utilizes existing investments.
Memet Atalay, Türk Telekom Vice President of Operations, said: “Turk Telekom is committed to providing fast, high-quality services to its customers anytime, anywhere, carrying them well into the future. Alcatel-Lucent’s fiber-to-the-building solution is instrumental to this. It helps us prepare for a long-term network transformation, leveraging a smart mix of copper and fiber access technologies to realize the highest speeds in the most cost-effective way. In the end, this is beneficial to all our customers, as we will be able to connect many more households to our high-speed network while staying within our budget.”
Cenk Kivilcim, CSO of Alcatel-Lucent in Turkey, said, “Turk Telekom wants to offer new services by cost-effectively and efficiently transitioning its network to an infrastructure capable of delivering high-speed broadband in the most economic way to all of its customers. Their selection of our VDSL2 solution shows that we have the technologies at hand to grow our customers’ networks in the way that matches their needs and goals.” |
