Sanjay Kapoor quits Bharti Airtel, Vittal new CEO

After serving the company for 15 years, Sanjay Kapoor, Bharti Airtel’s CEO (India and South Asia) has quit giving way for Gopal Vittal who has been working as director (special projects) since April 2012. Kapoor will, however continue to be with the Bharti group as a director on the board of Indus Towers and Bharti Global.
 
Vittal will report to Bharti Airtel chairman and managing director Sunil Mittal. He will focus on increasing market share and margins and also on growing alternate revenue streams such as 3G data and mobile money, Bharti said in the statement
 
“After almost 15 years of illustrious innings at Bharti Group, Sanjay Kapoor, CEO (India and South Asia), Bharti Airtel, has decided to pursue his future aspirations outside of Bharti,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday, announcing some top level changes.
 
The company said that Sanjay will continue in his current role until February 28, 2013, and will be available to assist on key matters until March 31, 2013, ensuring a smooth transition process,” the statement said.
