The government on Wednesday said that TRAI has imposed financial disincentives on service providers for violation of the provisions of regulations.
Giving this information in the Lok Sabha Milind Deora, Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology, said that the regulator imposed a penalty of Rs.1,00,000 on leading telecom operator Bharti Airtel during 2012-13.
During 2009-10, Vodafone attracted the penalty of Rs.15,000 under Telecom Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC) Regulations, 2007 (4 of 2007) dated 5th June, 2007 while Reliance was penalized with Rs.11,000. Similarly during the same period TRAI imposed penalty of Rs 10,000 on Tata and Rs1,000 on Spice.
Leading state owned operators MTNL and BSNL were also penalized for violating provisions of the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010 dated 1st December, 2010.
