TT Correspondent |  |  28 Feb 2013

India is witnessing an intense fight for market space for high end Android smartphones with LG on Thursday joining the race with the launch of its Android Optimus G.

The experts are putting in the same bracket I the same bracket with Sony Xperia ion and Samsung’s Galaxy S III. The device is priced at Rs. 29,500. The smartphone runs Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) OS and come with a 13MP rear-end camera and 1.3MP front facing camera.

It has 32GB of internal memory and can support NFC and has extended the OS with its own Optimus 3.0 UI. The 4.7 inch smartphone has Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5 GHz Quad-core processor.

Speaking at the launch, Soon Kwon, President South West Asia Region & MD, LG India, said, ''LG Optimus G meets the growing consumer demand by offering ample features like 13MP rear camera; 32 GB internal memory, dual screen/dual play, QSlide, quick translator, NFC,''

Optimus G also breaks away from tradition by flaunting a premium glass-made back graced with a crystal pattern.

Competing for the same space is Samsung’s Galaxy S III which is one of the most popular high-end phones in India. It has functions such as S beam, S voice, and buddy photo share that are introduced for the first time. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, dual core processor, and a strong 8-megapixel adds glamour to the phone. It is now selling at Rs. 29, 500 at Samsung e-stores.

Its weight is comparatively heavy. Its “S Voice” consumes battery very fast.

It is an amazing phone with creative software advancements. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is beautifully crafted in perfect shape and big screen. For Galaxy lovers, this is a good buy. It has competition from HTC One X. We have given it one of the highest ratings of 4.5.

With a large number of excellent features and functions, Samsung Galaxy S3 has set a benchmark for its close competitors - HTC One X and Apple. The only advantage HTC One X has over Galaxy S3 is its better screen resolution. The 1.5 dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 1 GB RAM has worked well with GS3. With its forceful promotion strategy, Samsung has an advantage over HTC One X and Apple. We consider it one of the best high end phones.

If one is looking for another option in same price range or even cheaper Xperia ion with a price tag of Rs. 28,000. It is  a fully loaded Smartphone with rich features, great camera and solid battery life. The screen size and display are impressive too.

The front camera is just 1.3 megapixels. At this price, one can get a phone with Quad core processor instead of Dual Core processor, which is offered by Xperia ion.

Xperia ion is a super phone which meets all the aspirations of youth. At this price range phones, it is a good buy.

Sony’s first Ericsson free smartphone Xperia ion is an amazing phone with brilliant features and good design. It’s loaded with latest features and applications, power packed with 1GB RAM and 1.5 GHz Dual Core processor. But, in this price range it should have been Quad core instead of Dual core and the front camera should have been 2 megapixels instead of VGA. The battery life is good, display is wonderful and the 12.1 megapixels main camera is outstanding. We give this phone four and half star rating.
