Google Nexux 7 to finally sell in India at Rs. 15,999, but will it take on iPad mini?
TT Correspondent |  |  26 Mar 2013

Google’s much awaited 16GB Wi-Fi version of Nexus 7 tablet will now be available in Indian market via the Google Play Store. The device is priced at Rs. 15,999. If ordered right now, the buyer could get the device by the end of first week of April as it normally takes shipments to take up seven days.

The tablet runs Android Jelly Bean (version 4.1) and is powered by the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor, which clocks at 1.3 GHz. The Nexus 7 comes with a 7-inch IPS display screen with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels and pixel density of 216 ppi. The tablet has 1GB of RAM, a 1.2 megapixel front camera and a 4325 mAh battery. It also includes NFC functionality.

It may be recalled that Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt during his India visit has hinted at such possibility. He also promised a fully serviced market. He even offered his apologies for Nexus devices not selling in India. The advantage for the customers is that Google directly service Android versions.

Before its launch last year Google sold  the 8GB Wi-Fi version of Nexus 7 which was priced at vailable for $199. But soon a 16GB version was launched with no price difference.

With prospects for all the tablet makers are growing in India given its size, Google’s efforts to make its presence felt in the country have not been on the same scales as its competitors like Apple Apple and Samsung and Asus for that matter. But recently it made a beginning by adding support for eBooks in the store and announcing support for for app pricing in rupees in its Android Play store.

Experts feel that it could take on Apple’s iPad mini in terms of price which is Rs 6000 costlier but has an edge with better quality apps.

There were many ifs and buts before then device was launched last year in the Us.. It was supposed to hit the market in October but the launch was later extended to November as announced by Asus the tablet maker. But even after it finally did hit the market Google instructed it to be withdrawn from the market.
