Essar Communications Holdings announced that it has acquired a strategic stake in California-based Obopay Inc., a service provider for payments via mobile phones.

However the amount of the stake is still not disclosed.

Post deal, Essar Global Senior Vice President (Business Development) K B Rajendran has been elected to Obopay’s board.
