Juniper networks introduces controller technology and new capabilities for software-defined networks
TT Correspondent |  |  06 May 2013

Juniper Networks has introduced JunosV Contrail, a family of products which includes the JunosV Contrail Controller, an open, standards-based controller for software-defined networks (SDN).

JunosV Contrail, now in trials with Fortune 500 global service provider and enterprise customers, will reduce the time, cost and risk for customers to deliver new network and security services. Cloud IT systems are helping companies respond quickly to increasingly uncertain and fast changing market conditions.

Built on intellectual property from Juniper’s recent acquisition of Contrail Systems, JunosV Contrail family of products will deliver a virtual network solution that easily integrates into existing data centers to centralize control across different client IT architectures and multiple cloud platforms. The solution virtualizes the network to enable seamless automation and orchestration among private and public cloud environments, elastic management of IP-based network and security services, and a “Big Data for Infrastructure” offering for enhanced analytics, diagnostics and reporting.

“AT&T has been working with industry leaders and the Internet Engineering Task Force to develop an open, standards-based model for flexible cloud services that integrate with the network-based services our enterprise customers rely on for their mission-critical applications. From our early access to Juniper’s JunosV Contrail solution we’ve seen that it has important capabilities that could help drive the evolution to Virtualization and Software Defined Networking”, said John Medamana, VP, AT&T Network Platforms.

“After reviewing SDN solutions from different vendors, China Mobile Research believes that Juniper Networks’ JunosV Contrail provides a very competitive architecture for a highly scalable and interoperable infrastructure. After completion of the trials later this year, we expect to lead the market with production deployment of a multi-vendor SDN solution”, said Lu Huang, Technical Manager, China Mobile Research Institute.
