TT Correspondent |  |  13 May 2013

Nokia it seems is bullish on sub-100$ smartphones to regain its global market and take on competitors like Apple, Samsung and cheaper Chinese handsets. On Friday it launched Windows Phone 8 Nokia Lumia 928 for Verizon Wireless for $ 99.

On Thursday it had launched Nokia Asha 501 from India. The sub-$100 device runs on new Asha platform. The Asha 501 will start shipping in June, and will be available through around 60 operators and distributors in over 90 countries.

Nokia Lumia 928 has a 4.5 inch WXGA HD OLED display with resolution 1280 x 768, Aspect Ratio 15:9, Pixel Density 334 ppi. It comes with Integrated 2000mAh battery, 1.5GHz dual core processor. It sports PureView 8.7MP Auto Focus camera.

It has 1 GB RAM; 32GB internal memory (formatted capacity is less); 7GB free in SkyDrive with additional storage via subscription.

Nokia Lumia 928 is very similar to the Lumia 920 that was launched on AT&T in 2010. Both the devices have 4.5-inch, 1280-by-768 resolution displays, 1.5 GHz dual core processors, 1 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, wireless charging and the ability to use the touch screen through gloved fingers

"Whether you're attending a party, a concert or a sporting event with friends, the Nokia Lumia 928 excels at capturing high-quality video, audio and blur-free photos of life's most share-worthy moments," said Matt Rothschild, vice president, Nokia North America. "Verizon Wireless customers, we heard you and the wait is over - we're excited to offer a Nokia flagship smartphone, specially designed and optimized for the nation's largest 4G LTE network."

The Nokia Lumia 928 is available for purchase in white or black at Verizon Wireless stores and online beginning Thursday, May 16 for USD99 after a USD50 mail-in rebate, with a new two-year customer agreement.  For a limited time, get a USD25 credit for Windows Phone apps and games with the purchase of a Nokia Lumia 928.
