Blackberry subscribers in the country total only 114,000
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  06 May 2008

The government claimed that the country has just about 114,000 Blackberry subscribers in the country. This was stated by the Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.

As per the information received from service providers, there are around 114,000 subscribers as on date who are being provided BlackBerry services by various telecom companies," he said.

The numbers seem to be too less for a country having mobile subscriber base more than 260 million. Also it leaves one to wonder if the ongoing controversy over security concerns related to Blackberry really commands the attention given to it.
