India’s mobile subscriber base registers 0.36% growth in June, Airtel continues to lead

The mobile subscriber base in India has registered a marginal growth of 0.36% during the month of June, as the data provided telecom regulator TRAI. It increased from 870.20 million in May 2013 to 873.36 million at the end of June 2013.

The share of urban wireless subscribers has decreased from 59.99% to 59.80% where as share of rural wireless subscribers has increased from 40.01% to 40.20%. The overall wireless Teledensity in India has reached 71.08 from 70.90 of previous month.

Wireless subscription in urban areas increased from 522.01 million in May 2013 to 522.27 million at the end of June 2013. The wireless subscription in rural areas increased from 348.19 million to 351.10 million during the same period. The urban

Wireless Teledensity has decreased from 139.32 to 139.16 and rural Teledensity has increased from 40.83 to 41.14.

Overall, the number of telephone subscribers in India increased to 903.09 million at the end of June, 2013 from 900.05 million at the end of May 2013, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.34%.

The share of urban subscribers has decreased to 60.40% from 60.59% whereas share of rural subscribers has increased from 39.41% to 39.60% in the month of June 2013. With this, the overall Teledensity in India increased to 73.50 at the end of June, 2013 from 73.33 of the previous month.

Bharti Airtel continued to maintain its lead with new addition over 12.63 lakh while Idea Cellular which added over 12.09 lakh new customers.

They are followed at No 3 slot by Reliance Communications with 8.33 lakh new customers. Aircel and Vodafone added  6.11 lakh and 3.47 lakh new customers respectively.

Videocon added only 1.32 lakh new customers during the reported month while Uninor added 2.95 lakh new customers in June.

Those impacted are Tata Teleservices which lost 6.39 lakh customers from its network. New operator SSTL lost 3.5 lakh customers, Loop Mobile lost 1.52 lakh customers, BSNL 75,000 and Quadrant, 23,000 during the month.

As per the data reported by the service providers, by the end of June 2013 about 95.59 million subscribers have submitted their requests to different service providers for porting their mobile number.
