Telecom minister Kapil Sibal on Tuesday said that telecom mergers and acquisition guidelines would be in place by November 1.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of Assocham's India Knowledge Summit, Sibal said that the release of these guidelines would take another two weeks. Earlier the guidelines were expected to be released by October 15.
Sources told PTI that the mergers and acquisition (M&A) guidelines would mandate incumbent service providers participating in consolidation activities to convert their old licence to Unified Licence, Sibal also made it clear that the government is not in favour of any control on internet in the name of cyber security.
He said that an inter-governmental committee in the United Nations will address cyber security issue. “India can't be part of controls on the internet," he said. |
