Ericsson receives CSR award for its work in Myanmar from Telecoms Sans Frontieres
TT Correspondent |  |  25 Nov 2013

Ericsson has been awarded the "Corporate Social Responsibility Special Recognition Award" by Telecoms Sans Frontieres at the Global Carrier Awards for its CSR approach in Myanmar, where the company re-established its presence in June 2012.

The award was presented by the President of Télécoms Sans Frontières, Jean-François Cazenave. "The award recognizes the extensive research that Ericsson has undertaken to demonstrate that access to telecommunications would be beneficial to the people, economy and society of Myanmar," he said. "In addition, Ericsson's re-establishment of its presence in Myanmar demonstrates that it will collaborate with respected human rights stakeholders both to assess the human rights situation and the socioeconomic impact that telecommunications brings."

Elaine Weidman Grunewald, Ericsson Vice President for Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility, said of the achievement: "We are honored to be recognized for the work that we have done in Myanmar.

"Ericsson believes that access to communications is a basic human need, even a human right, and should be accessible for all. We envisage a Networked Society that is sustainable, and where everything that can benefit from a connection will have one. The recent developments in Myanmar telecommunications are exciting and we want to be part of the positive growth and change that is taking place."
