Indian born Satya Nadella could be the Microsoft’s new CEO, according to Bloomberg. Nadella joined Microsoft in 1992 and is currently its cloud-computing head.

The company board is also is mulling replacing its chairman Bill Gates with John Thompson, Microsoft's lead independent director. Last month, Thompson in his blog post had revealed that the company is searching  for CEO in the "early part of 2014."
 
He wrote that the board started with more than 100 candidates and has since narrowed the list. Ballmer said last August that he planned to retire within a year.
 
Nadella was in the fray for the coveted post for quite some time. The company, however, refused to comment on the development.

Born in 1967 in Hyderabad, India, Nadella attended Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet before getting a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication from the Manipal University.
 
After moving to the US, Nadella earned a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
 
Nadella worked with Sun Microsystems as a member of the technology staff before joining Microsoft in 1992. At Microsoft, he worked as the senior vice president of R&D for the Online Services Division and vice president of the Microsoft Business Division. Later, he was made the president of Microsoft’s $19 billion Server and Tools Business and led the transformation of the business and technology from client services to cloud infrastructure and services.

Other internal candidates who are in the fray include - Executive Vice President Tony Bates and Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner. External candidates have included former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally, Qualcomm Inc. CEO-elect Steve Mollenkopf and Ericsson CEO Hans Vestberg.
