TT Correspondent |  |  07 Feb 2014

The telecom sector of India has shown an exponential growth during 2003-13 and is an important contributor to the economic growth of the country, according to research firm Research and Markets.

According to “India Telecom Services Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2018”, the market for India's telecom service by subscribers is expected to get doubled by 2018, growing at the CAGR of around 11% during 2013-18.

By 2012, India has become world's second largest telecom service market in terms of subscribers as a result of fast adoption of newer technologies and rising penetration of mobile phones in the country. This is further supported by declining cost of telecom services along with the increasing usage of applications.

The telecom service market of India is being primarily driven by supportive government policies and regulations. During 2004-12, the broadband service market has registered an unprecedented growth, which was chiefly driven by Broadband Policy 2004.
