Etisalat and Huawei partners to extend consumer devices market
TT Correspondent |  |  28 Feb 2014

Etisalat Group and Huawei will look to build upon their existing cooperation in the consumer device market through the signing of a new agreement aimed at bringing more world-class smart devices to local Etisalat telecom customers.

Announced during last week’s Mobile World Congress 2014 exhibition, the MoU has been founded on previous successes between the two companies when introducing smart devices to consumers in the MENA region.  The latest agreement will focus in particular on next generation high-speed internet devices as well as new smartphone offerings being developed globally by Huawei.

“We recognize that brining the best service experience to our customers involves offering customers access to the most powerful and creative device technology, which is what we look forward to doing with Huawei as part of this agreement”, says Obaid Bokisha, Chief Procurement Officer, Etisalat Group.

"Over the last decade Huawei and Etisalat have pioneered numerous world-firsts in both the telecommunications and device market”, says Alan Wang, President of Etisalat Key Account at Huawei. “This memorandum is another opportunity for both Huawei and Etisalat to lead the market forward and to deliver exceptional communication experiences to more people and more people across the region”.

According to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, Huawei retained its number three position in the worldwide smartphone market in 2013, with the highest year-on-year increase among the leading vendors. In the Middle East, Huawei has made significant strides over the last year by forging strategic alliances with leading telecom operators, distribution and retailer partners, underscoring the company’s drive to increasing its overall visibility in the consumer space.
