Patent War: Jury ordered Samsung to pay $ 119.6 million to Apple for infringment
TT Correspondent |  |  03 May 2014

After over a month of speculation, the verdict on the infringing of patents in Apple vs Samsung is in. Samsung has been ordered by the jury to pay $ 119.6 million to Apple for infringing on patents. However, Apple had been seeking damages in excess of $ 2 billion for the same infringements.

The iPhone maker claims that Samsung copied Apple’s technology for smartphone features including the slide-feature to unlock a device, word correction, universal searching, quick links and syncing programs in the background.

Samsung in turn has argued that Apple should pay $6 million for infringing on its own patents for video features on smartphones.

There still remains the question of whether Judge Lucy Koh will rule in favour of Apple in the matter of the injunction. The jury only decided the damage amount, while Koh reserves the verdict on an injunction. It looks highly unlikely, though, given the rather lenient jury verdict.
