TT Correspondent |  |  24 Apr 2015

Chinese Smartphone maker Xiaomi, on Thursday unveiled its stunning new flagship device, the Mi 4i in India for Rs. 12,999. Mi 4i will go on sale in India first. Registration on Flipkart started on Thursday, and the sale will begin April 30, 2015. The phone is 7.8 mm thick and will be available in black, white, orange, light blue and pink colour options.

“India is extremely significant to Xiaomi. It is our largest international market outside of mainland China, and I am truly excited that Mi 4i will be launching first in India, followed by our other global markets. Xiaomi’s goal is to bring innovation to everyone. We will launch more products for India and other markets as we continue our focus on making friends with fans and creating products according to their needs,” said Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi.

“The Mi 4i is an amazing smartphone and I believe Mi fans will simply love the experience they get on this device. We have worked closely with leading global suppliers to source the best components and collaborated with Foxconn to ensure the highest precision and quality, making Mi 4i our most beautiful ultra-compact flagship device ever. Coupled with the incredible price, I trust that Mi 4i will be warmly welcomed by Mi fans,” said Hugo Barra, Vice President of Xiaomi Global.

Xiaomi Mi 4i features a 5 inch Full HD screen with 1080x1920 pixels resolution in pixels density of 441 PPI and the all-new Sunlight Display dynamically adjusts the contrast of each pixel for crystal-clear images even under direct sunlight. Mi 4i is also Xiaomi’s very first MIUI 6 device based on Android Lollipop. Mi 4i is a work of art packed with top-of-the-line components from leading global suppliers such as Qualcomm, Samsung, Corning and Sony.

Xiaomi Mi 4i is powered with four performance cores at 1.7 GHz, and four power saving cores at 1.1 GHz comes equipped with a 2nd-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core 64-bit processor and 2GB RAM. The device comes with 16GB of onboard Flash. It also features 4G dual SIM slots. It comes with 13megapixels rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual tone flash and a 5 megapixels front camera with an 80 degree wide angle lens is great for selfies, coupled with Beautify.

Xiaomi has collaborated with manufacturing partner Foxconn to manufacture a motherboard that is one of the smallest and thinnest found in a phone this size, making space for a huge 3120 mAh battery that can power through 1.5 days of normal usage. That’s on average 38% more battery capacity across 5-inch premium devices, and 72% higher capacity than the iPhone 6 battery. MIUI supports six Indian languages – Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil. For connectivity, Mi4i includes – 4G,  Bluetooth 4.1, 802.11ac, GPS/Glonass, Wi-Fi Direct and USB on-the-go.

At the event today, Barra announced that the extremely popular Mi Band is coming to India, and will be sold exclusively on Mi.com for Rs. 999. Xiaomi is already selling 1 million units of the Mi Band a month, and Mi India fans will now be able to get their hands on one. The Mi Band not only tracks exercise, but also monitors sleep patterns. It can also automatically unlock Mi phones and Android 5.0 devices.

Starting in May, Mi 4i will launch in Xiaomi’s other markets – Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. This speaks volumes about the company’s commitment to its global plans.
