TT Correspondent |  |  09 Nov 2015

Wipro restructured its global media and telecommunications business unit and split the nearly $1 billion unit into three different businesses, as its chief executive Ayan Mukerji has decided to quit, after 28 years at Wipro.

The GMT business will have a new structure, with its sub-vertical Communication Services carved out into a strategic business unit with Vice-President Anil Jain as its head, Wipro said in a statement.

While Anil Jain will report to Wipro Chief Operating Officer Abidali Neemuchwala, the media vertical will be clubbed with retail, consumer goods, transportation and government verticals for better synergies, the statement added

The Product Engineering Business will report to Abidali Neemuchwala

After the chief business operations officer Satishchandra Doreswamy resigned in March. Mukerji becomes the second executive to leave Wipro.

The GMT business posted a sequential growth of 4.4 % in the second quarter. This vertical contributed 13.4 % to Wipro's revenues in the September quarter.

Wipro also elevated Shaji Farooq as President and Chief Executive of the banking and financial services vertical, along with three other presidents, Anand Padmanabhan, GK Prasanna and Bhanumurthy BM.
