TT Bureau |  |  07 Jun 2008

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indus Towers Ltd, a joint venture of Vodafone, Bharti, and Idea to develop innovative renewable energy solutions for telecom services, encompassing Wind Farm development, Renewable Energy Supply Options for Telecom Shelters, and Mobile Power Plant Prototype development.

Under the MoU signed, a Euro container based mobile power plant prototype based on renewable energy system will be developed by TERI. Further it will provide expertise for Indus’s Wind Farm Development activities including detailed energy estimation and an analysis of techno-commercial feasibility. While the Indus Towers will continue with its aim to enhance wireless communication sector in order to achieve Government’s tele-density goals and broader rural coverage.

Speaking on the alliance, Mr. MM Joshi, Director, Enterprise and Technology Development, TERI said “This is a pioneering thought on behalf of TERI and Indus Towers to use environmental strategy to innovate, create value and build competitive advantage. The MoU is an example of far-sightedness and will benefit the end-users and the society in the long-run.”
