Ericsson to demonstrate advanced technology for IPTV services
TT Bureau |  |  17 Jun 2008

Ericsson said it will demonstrate world’s first 10Gbps Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) system for IPTV having four times the bandwidth of existing GPON systems. Additionally it will also unveil a 8-port GPON board under its EDA 1500 GPON product portfolio.

According to Ericsson, GPON technology acting as backbone of high quality television experience supports multiple capabilities like maximized bandwidth efficiency, guaranteed instant channel change, and robust security capabilities.

The addition of 8-port GPON board will double the capacity and act as cost effective measure, enabling the EDA 1500 Optical Line Terminal to serve more than 7100 homes, claims the company.

Speaking on the development, Hakan Eriksson, CTO for Ericsson said “Increased GPON capacity will help operators maximize their network investment, and ensure that new services demanding higher speed and functionality can be introduced cost-effectively over time.”
