TT Bureau |  |  21 Jun 2008

Alcatel Lucent and SpeedCast Ltd announced a tie-up to develop and commercialize a shared, hosted DVB-H platform for mobile TV operators in Asia.

As per the deal, both the companies will leverage their infrastructure, technologies and content delivery solutions to build a new mobile TV platform which will enable operators to offer more than 20 TV channels via satellite to their transmission towers for terrestrial broadcast to DVB-H handheld devices, says the tie-up.

According to the companies, the solution will cut capital cost and operational expenditures of the operators related to mobile TV service and will enable them to leverage the economies of scale offered by a centralized platform.

Speaking about the tie-up, Frederic Rose, Alcatel-Lucent''s President of activities in the Europe, Africa and Asia region said “By teaming-up with SpeedCast, Alcatel-Lucent is committed to allowing traditional as well as green-field operators accelerate their mobile TV delivery anywhere in Asia.”
