China Telecom nears one million IPTV subscriber mark
TT Bureau |  |  01 Jul 2008

China’s leading fixedline service provider, China Telecom claims to have reached a subscriber base of 940,000 in May and is all set to record one million subscriber base soon.

Further the company has placed orders for procuring 574,000 set top boxes eying expansion of the services. The services were launched way back in 2005.

India is yet to witness a comprehensive offering from IPTV providers and even those who provide such services as of now are content enough to have a subscriber base numbering less a lakh a year. As in all other cases, even with respect to IPTV services, the country appears to be lacking behind China where a single service provider has already attained a subscriber base of 940,000.
